The Cartoon Network channel was created as a place to take advantage of the considerable amount of material available to Turner animation, and the initial programming consisted exclusively of reruns of classic animated series Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn -Mayer, with many cartoons Hanna-Barbera used to fill spaces.

In 1996, the company Time Warner acquired Turner Broadcasting System, which served Cartoon Network to have new material now access the entire archive of Warner Bros in the 1950s and 1960s.
